Update

Hello everyone!

We are back into the swing of things here at school! All of the students have adjusted very well to our new “normal” here at school. We have been enjoying amazing weather for outdoor PE classes. Please ensure your student(s) have proper outdoor sneakers as we are having most classes outdoors while the weather permits!

The students have been enjoying working on cross country running, locomotor skills and even some mapping activities outdoors. We are having lots of fun!

I am currently working on a new site and will post when it is up and running.

Friday, May 19th

Good morning! Today is the last day of our online learning! Wow, it’s hard to believe that 11 weeks ago we began this journey! Thank you for all of your work at home!!! I look forward to returning to school in the fall and seeing all of the wonderful students in person. I hope that everyone has a wonderful summer.

Activity: Tag or Hide and Seek

Equipment: none

For today’s activity, I thought I would go with a classic! Choose your favorite type of tag or hide and seek game (or any other favorite game if you choose) and have fun!!! Remember if you are playing outdoors today drink lots of water, wear sunscreen and take some breaks in the shade when you need to.

Have fun!

Thursday, June 18th

Good morning! Another beautiful day ahead; today’s activity can be done indoors or outdoors.

Activity: Animal walks (this activity was part of Boks June fitness calendar)

Equipment: none

For today’s activity choose an animal and move like that animal for 60 seconds. Do this 10 times for 10 different animals. This will surely get your heart pumping. Take little breaks between each animal if you are feeling tired. Some suggestions for animal walks: hop like a frog, bear crawl, slither like a snake, run like a tiger, etc.  For older students who may not want to do animal walks; choose any locomotor activity (skipping, running, jogging, hopping, etc) instead of an animal for the 60 second interval and switch the activity up each interval. As always, make changes as you need to make this work for you!

Have fun!

Wednesday, June 17th

Good morning! It is a beautiful, sunny day! Today’s activity is an outdoor one; put on your sunscreen and enjoy this weather!

Activity: Build you own multi-sport event!

Equipment: whatever you have

There are many multi-sport events such as duathlons (running/biking), triathlons (swimming, running, biking) and pentathlons (pistol shooting, show riding, swimming, fencing, running) in which you do multiple events in competition. Today, you are going to create your own! Choose 2-5 activities such as running, biking, riding your scooter, throwing to a target, bouncing a ball, dribbling a soccer or basketball, hopscotch, or any locomotor activity. Choose an order and a distance for your events; run around the house 2 times, ride your bike around the house 3 times, then do a hopscotch course 3 times. You can choose if each activity will be in the same location (driveway) or if you will arrive at a new destination after each of your events. When you complete all of your events you are finished! This activity can be whatever you want it to; have fun, be creative and get moving!

Have fun!

Monday, June 15th

Good morning! This is the last week of home learning for our students!!! It is hard to believe that we began home learning 11 weeks ago! Thank you for all of your work at home and I hope to see all of my Sherwood students again in the fall.

Activity: Do the Locomotion (this activity is from PHE Canada)

Click to access K-3%20PE_Do%20the%20Locomotion.pdf

This activity can definitely be done outdoors if you choose. Take your markers outdoors or use items that are already outside to be your markers. For older students they can use this as a challenge to quickly move/change directions to touch as many markers as they can in a time frame (with or without music). As always, make changes to make this work for you!

Have fun!

Friday, June 12th

Good morning! It’s Friday!!! Yippee! I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Activity: Friday Free Day!!! (our students LOVE hearing these words!!!)

Equipment: Whatever you choose

Friday Free day! Choose an activity that gets you moving and you love! It may involve some equipment, or non at all. Any activity works; go for a bike ride or hike, dribble a basketball or soccer ball, do some yoga or play your favorite game. Whatever you choose, have fun!!!

Thursday, June 11th

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well! The clouds are supposed to clear the way for some sunshine today; I hope everyone can get out and enjoy some fresh air!

Activity: Make up your own tag game

Equipment: none

Everyone loves a good game of tag! There are many, many different ways to play tag. Today’s challenge is to make up your own game! For example; choose an animal that will be “it”, then choose a different animal that is being chased. Lastly, you need to choose what happens when someone gets tagged. Do they need to do something like jumping jacks? Do they need to go somewhere (tag the front step), or do they need to freeze? There are endless possibilities! If you are not feeling so creative today…no problem, choose your favorite game of tag and play that!

Have fun!

Wednesday, June 10th

Good morning! The sun is shining and it looks like a beautiful day ahead!

Activity: Driveway games

Equipment: If you have it, you can use the following: chalk, ball, skipping rope

For today’s activity set up 4 stations on your driveway or yard.

#1-target throw (draw a circle or use a hoop to mark your target; throw over or underhand)

#2- hopscotch

#3- skipping

#4- activity station (jumping jacks, high knees, plank, jog/run on the spot, etc)

Rotate through the stations however you like; you can do a number of repetitions at each, use a timer or simply move on when you are ready. Go through the stations a number of times to give yourself a great workout that will get your heart pumping!

You can always switch out one of my suggestions for something different to make your stations work at your home!

Have fun!

Tuesday, June 9th

Good morning! The sun is shining, it looks like rain later today so be sure to get outside early today for some fresh air!

Activity: Don’t touch my paw! This is a Boks burst from Boks Canada.

Equipment: none needed but you could choose to use an object to block instead of your hand.

BURST 2 – Don’t Touch My Paw Burst

  1. Each individual must get in a bear crawl stance across from their partner.
  2. The object of the game is to touch another child’s paw (hand) while bear crawling around the room (similar to tag).
  3. If the child’s paw (hand) is touched by another child that child must perform 10 toe touches (crunches, pretend ladder climbs, etc.) then continue the game.
  4. Repeat for 5 to 7 minutes.

Note: this Burst works great in the home environment with family. If you are in a school setting, we encourage you to have an item that is being blocked by one partner and the other partner attempts to tag the item, to allow for physical distancing.

Have fun!
